Lichfield residents will get the chance to sing with a live rock band when Rockaoke comes to The Hub at St Mary’s later this month.

The UK live karaoke band will open up the stage at the city centre venue on Saturday 28 November, from 8pm.

Hosted by Stage Door Johnny, the night will also feature games and prizes. Audience members can grab the mic and perform their favourite songs with the band playing behind them.

Rockaoke made its name at Ibiza Rocks in the mid-2000s, where Kaiser Chiefs frontman Ricky Wilson joined the band on stage.

In more than 20 years since, the band has played around 8,000 gigs and backed an estimated 150,000 lead singers. It reached millions of BBC Radio 1 listeners through Nights with Chris Moyles.

The band now plays regularly at major UK festivals. It also runs long-standing Rockaoke nights in London, including a residency at the Star of Kings in King’s Cross that has run for 15 years.

Time Out has described the show as “one of London’s finest WTF experiences”, while Rolling Stone called it “a beloved institution”.

Anthony Evans, creative director at The Hub, said: “Lichfield, what are you waiting for? Grab that mic and give it all you’ve got. No talent required, enthusiasm mandatory!”

The Hub is a registered charity and social enterprise. It runs the former St Mary’s Church as a multi-use heritage and arts venue.

Tickets cost £18 and are available online or in person at The Hub.
