Local company appointed to undertake Burton Market Hall roof repair
The East Staffordshire Borough Council has appointed local company JAL roofing has to undertake roof repair works to the historic Burton Market Hall building.
The roof works mark an important first step towards preserving Burton Market Hall for future generations.
After a detailed tender exercise, JAL roofing was appointed due to their knowledge and experience, providing case studies from roofing projects across Derbyshire.
Pick Everard, the Council’s supporting consultant, conducted technical evaluation of the bids.
Dominic Edwards and Rikesh Parmar from Pick Everard said: “JAL provided a good quality technical response with previous work on heritage assets showcasing their ability to undertake complex roofing works of this type.
“JAL roofing’s plans to utilise local labour, suppliers and for community engagement were particularly impressive.”
John Lees, managing director of JAL roofing, said: “JAL Roofing are delighted to have been awarded this local project less than 10 miles from our head office.
“We are really looking forward to working with both Pick Everard and East Staffordshire Borough Council to bring this historic building back to its former glory for the local community and businesses”
Cllr Paul Walker, Cabinet Member for Tourism & Cultural Development, said: “It’s great to get the work on the Market Hall Roof underway, and once completed will give the historic building a new lease of life.”
Works are schedule to start in mid-September and conclude in March.
