Logistics operator steps out in support of Alzheimer’s Society
Members of the Simpex team joined forces at Sutton Park, Birmingham, to take part in a charity walk raising money for the Alzheimer’s Society.
The event carried a particularly personal significance for the company, as colleagues Debbie Brown, finance director, and Sarah Shemmans, accounts manager, have both been directly affected by dementia in their families.
Debbie lost her mother to the disease, while Sarah’s father is currently living with it.
Dementia is one of the most pressing health challenges facing the UK today.
Current figures show that around 982,000 people are living with dementia in the UK, with numbers projected to rise to 1.4 million by 2040.
It is estimated that one in three people born in the UK in 2015 will develop dementia in their lifetime.
These stark statistics underline the importance of supporting charities like the Alzheimer’s Society, which provide essential help to families and fund vital research into better treatments and, ultimately, a cure.
Debbie Brown said: “At Simpex, we believe it’s not just about raising funds but also raising awareness.
“Watching the team come together in Sutton Park was great — especially in support of Sarah and myself, both of whom have dementia in our families.
“Every donation, every step, helps”
