Lunar Society launches annual dinner after Covid hiatus
The Lunar Society is holding their annual dinner on 22 September 2023, after a hiatus of several years due to Covid.
The event will take place at Copt Heath Golf Club, 1220 Warwick Road, Knowle, Solihull, B93 9LN and commences at 7pm with a pre-dinner reception followed by a three-course meal with speaker in the fine tradition of the Lunar Society.
Professor Robert Beckford, director of the Institute of Climate and Social Justice at the University of Winchester will be speaking at the dinner.
Professor Beckford is an activist, scholar, and BAFTA Award winning documentary film maker, amongst his many accomplishments, whose work encompasses the interface between religion, ethnicity, and social justice.
He said: “In my talk, I will contour three generations of reparations discourse in Birmingham and suggest that restorative justice should replace the notion of social justice concerning Birmingham's Black community.”
In addition, they have also announced that Anne Ellis, an acclaimed concert pianist and the director of music for Bournville Young Singers and St Mary Magdalene Church, Tanworth in Arden will be playing live with a repertoire of light classical music during the dinner.
