A senior figure from one of the region’s key transport businesses is set to lead efforts to drive economic growth across South and East Staffordshire.

Jonathan Roberts (pictured), chief financial officer at M6 Toll, will be leading a panel of business leaders from South and East Staffordshire to champion economic growth in the region.

The Staffordshire Gateway is a cohesive economic corridor, linked by major industries like manufacturing, logistics, retail, and services, facilitated by an already strong transport corridor which is set to further develop in the near future.

With devolution set to reorganise local government structures in this area, the Staffordshire Gateway Growth Panel, a research project led by the GBCC, will champion the needs and priorities of businesses in the Staffordshire Gateway to help constructively inform and influence stakeholder decision-making.

The Panel will comprise business leaders across South and East Staffordshire, including the Presidents of the Chambers of Commerce in Burton and District, Cannock Chase, and Lichfield & Tamworth.

Bringing over 15 years of experience in the transport sector to his role as Chair, Jonathan has a wealth of expertise in dealing with complexity, strategy, delivering change, and developing people in key leadership roles.

Jonathan is committed to fostering economic growth in Staffordshire and the West Midlands and has consistently championed initiatives that enhance regional connectivity, support local businesses, and contribute to the prosperity of local communities.

Jonathan said: “Chairing the new GBCC Staffordshire Gateway Growth Panel represents an exciting opportunity to do something different and personally meaningful.

“I’m passionate about fostering growth in the wider West Midlands region, and South and East Staffordshire is of critical importance, especially given the link provided by the M6toll.

“In my role as CFO, I am especially eager to understand and support our local business communities as they continue to develop and thrive.”
