An exciting £370,000 refurbishment at Meadowside Leisure Centre, which includes revamped changing facilities, has been completed.

The centre, run by award-winning operator Everyone Active in partnership with East Staffordshire Borough Council, has undergone improvements over the past month as a result of the joint-funded project, which included a £350,000 contribution from the Council.

The existing village changing area, village toilets, changing places room, shower area and teaching pool spectator area have all been transformed.

A launch event was held on Monday, April 27 which included Everyone Active colleagues, council representatives, customers and other stakeholders to showcase these enhancements and mark the opening of the changing facilities to the public.

Dan Mclean, Everyone Active’s area contract manager, said: “The completion of this project is fantastic news for the local community and brings these areas up to the state-of-the-art standards we have in place throughout the centre.

“We are extremely proud to formally open these facilities, which will be a hugely valuable resource to Meadowside for many years to come.”

Cllr Paul Walker, Cabinet Member for Tourism and Cultural Development, said: “The completed refurbishment looks fantastic and will really enhance the customer journey at Meadowside Leisure Centre.

“This will prove a valuable investment by the Council for years to come and we are confident the changes will be a big hit with customers.”

This refurbishment is another development following a hugely positive six months for Meadowside Leisure Centre, which was named Regional Public Centre of the Year (East Anglia and Midlands) at the 2025 ukactive Awards in October.

The Council and Everyone Active have also recently announced a five-year extension to their partnership, which will see Everyone Active continue to operate Meadowside Leisure Centre, along with Uttoxeter Leisure Centre and Shobnall Leisure Complex, until 2034.

Customers of the Meadowside and Uttoxeter Leisure Centres who drive to the facilities, will also be pleased to see they now only have to park up and enter their vehicle’s registration plate using the tablets inside the centres to claim the usual free parking – up to three hours.

This replaces the previous system where leisure centre customers could claim refunds for their parking from the reception desk, providing a simpler, more efficient process for leisure centre users.
