Make & Mend workshop for men over 50 to connect, learn and create
The Colebridge Trust has launched a new practical workshop for men over 50 to connect, learn and create.
The new workshop, called Make & Mend, is based at Unit 21, Chelmsley Wood Industrial Estate and offers relaxed and welcoming opportunity to learn practical skills, make, repair and repurpose items.
Participants can expect good company and humour, alongside tea, coffee and biscuits.
The workshops are led by David Hackney, who brings experience in engineering and woodwork, alongside a real strength for creating supportive, practical and engaging sessions where people feel comfortable getting involved.
The focus is on men aged 50 and over, creating a friendly space to build confidence, stay active, learn new skills and connect with others.
Chet Parmar, CEO of Colebridge Trust, said: “Colebridge has been planning a project of this type for some time, and we were originally inspired by other men in sheds projects around the country.
“A chance meeting with David Hackney at a local pub led to an impromptu discussion about the need to have safe spaces where people could come together, share skills and gain a sense of achievement from practical activities.
“David just happened to have spent many years delivering youth and community work and had since developed a career in engineering. He was hugely enthusiastic about getting this going and staying involved.
“Together, with Nadia Davis's extensive knowledge of adult education, we have a great team to ensure that people will get a fantastic experience.
“It also complements our ISO9001 packing and light assembly operation - which has been supporting local people for 15 years.”
Sessions currently run on Fridays (11am–1pm or 2pm–4pm).
The Colebridge Trust is keen to hear from anyone who would like to attend a session, as well as local businesses or individuals who may have spare tools, equipment or workbenches to donate.
Equipment that may no longer be needed in one workplace could make a real difference in helping the Trust develop the project and create more opportunities for people in the local community.
