MURPHY Geospatial is marking 40 years in business since its inception in 1983.

Alongside this key milestone, the Irish-founded geospatial firm is also celebrating reaching 350 members of staff across its six offices, over €40M revenue this year and raising over €175,000 to date for various charities.

From roots in Kilcullen, Ireland to now having offices across Europe, the organisation has completed over 27,000 projects internationally.

The firm is one of the leading geospatial solutions providers at a time when location, data and tech are showing themselves to be integral to the next digital-led industrial revolution. Murphy Geospatial serves significant clients across six core sectors – infrastructure, property, natural environment, energy, utilities and manufacturing.

Niall Murphy, chief executive officer (CEO), said: “Reaching 40 years in business is an achievement and it’s shared by our team members, of which there are now over 350 in our six offices completing projects internationally.

“With our strong team of experts, which continues to grow, we have also achieved record-levels of revenue at over €40M this year.

“This has allowed us to invest in our people, in new technologies and in new sectors and territories to support our vision for the future. We’re well-positioned as we are working in an increasingly tech-focused space with clients in advanced manufacturing facilities such as semiconductor production, within data centres and renewable energy.

“Alongside this, we’re committed to our values which are innovation, respect, integrity, and community. As part of our commitment to the community, we’ve raised over €175,000 for different charities this year including Children’s Health Foundation, Centrepoint and suicide prevention charity, Pieta.”

Murphy Geospatial was founded by Peter Murphy as Peter Murphy and Associates before becoming Murphy Surveys.

In 1995, Anne Murphy took over the business following Peter’s untimely death. This continued until Peter and Anne’s sons each graduated with their own qualifications in geomatics and surveying and could join the business.

Niall, Colin and Ray Murphy now form three quarters of the executive team as CEO, chief business development officer and chief strategy officer, respectively, alongside Billy Roche as chief operations officer. Youngest and last to join the organisation was Diarmuid Murphy who is a director at the organisation.

On innovation, Niall credits this founding value as a key driver of the organisation’s success.

Niall continued: “Our father was an innovator and never one to shy away from new technology. He was one of the first to add satellite positioning to our list of services in 1994. We carry that love of innovation to what we do to this day.

“We believe that now’s the time to accelerate that innovation, to find new ways of working, but also the time to drive efficiencies and sustainability as there are no margins for costly errors. For that, we need to offer absolute certainty when it comes to geospatial data with precision detail and analysis.

“This is driving our vision for the future. I think he’d be proud of how we’ve retained this throughout our growth. I would also like to thank our team, clients and suppliers for their support, and look forward to the continued relationships.”
