Meet the GBYPY judges: Uko Umotong

Uko Umotong, co-founder of UB Healthcare, is among the judges for this year’s Greater Birmingham Young Professional Awards.

A healthcare entrepreneur and transformation leader, Uko brings experience from senior corporate roles, start-up growth and health and care consultancy, alongside his work supporting local and underrepresented businesses as Vice Chair of the Black Business Collective and a member of the Solihull Chamber Executive Committee.

Please introduce yourself – your name, role, organisation, and a brief overview of your career journey

My name is Uko Umotong, and I am the co-founder of UB Healthcare.

I am a healthcare entrepreneur and transformation leader whose career has progressed from corporate leadership roles with organisations including Bank of Ireland and the Post Office, to helping scale a healthcare start-up through rapid growth and successful acquisition.

Building on that experience, I co-founded UB Healthcare, a fast-growing specialist consultancy supporting health and care systems across the UK.

Today, I work with NHS organisations and Integrated Care Boards to transform complex community care, intermediate care, discharge, and funded care pathways, improving outcomes, strengthening governance, and delivering measurable efficiencies.

I also serve as Vice Chair of the Black Business Collective and on the Solihull Chamber Executive Committee, reflecting his commitment to helping local and underrepresented businesses grow and thrive.

What inspired you to pursue your current role and area of expertise?

What does success look like for a young professional at the start of their career?

Building credibility – amongst peer, clients, stakeholder and manager/superiors

Why do you think recognising and celebrating young professional talent across Greater Birmingham is important?

We need to retain talent in Greater Birmingham. We know the challenges they face so this is significant in helping top talent feel valued.

What was particularly impressive about the nominees in the Tech category?

I left reassured that our local talent is focused on embracing the opportunities that the advancements in tech present
