Members invited to get involved with entry-level initiative
An employment programme aimed at students and graduates in Birmingham is inviting businesses with entry-role vacancies, businesspeople offering professional advice and Chamber members in entry-level roles to be a part of an initiative boosting talent on West Midlands soil.
'Get Hired ', a three-day employment programme aimed at recent graduates and final year students from Birmingham-based universities, offers those seeking work in the West Midlands the opportunity to build their skills and confidence to get hired.
The event is open to student and recent graduates, from the University of Birmingham, Newman University and University College Birmingham
The programme aims to bolster employment opportunities particularly for under-represented groups such as individuals from ethnic minorities, those with a disability and also students who are the first generation to enter higher education in their family.
Taking place from 27 - 29 June at ThinkTank Birmingham Science Museum at Millennium Point, the content of the programme covers:
- Day one: Finding your why - attendees will pinpoint their strengths and values and what they can offer employers.
- Day two: Think like a recruiter - understanding the recruitment process and getting to grips with employer expectation.
- Day three: Meet the recruiters - students and graduates will network with local businesses hiring with live opportunities.
The Get Hired! programme is inviting members from The Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce with live graduate entry roles available in growth sectors such as life sciences, the public sector, education and hospitality, to get involved with the programme.
Likewise, members from Future Faces are also being invited to offer their personal and professional guidance and experience on entering entry-level positions in their career.
Matt Haskey, project manager for Transformation West Midlands, said: “Transformation West Midlands ' goal is to build a diverse local graduate talent pipeline - to help stimulate business growth and enable local under-represented graduates to gain graduate level employment in their home region.
“Get Hired on 29 June is a fantastic opportunity to develop that pipeline. Engage and share your vacancies with our local graduates and discover their full potential. ”
