Midlands firms encouraged to join trade missions to South Asian nations
Midlands firms are being invited to boost connections with women-led businesses in South Asia through two international trade missions as part of the UK-funded SheTrades programme.
Funded trade missions to Sri Lanka and the ASEAN region (Association of South East Asian Nations) are being organised by the International Trade Centre (ITC) in a bid to connect UK buyers with women-led firms.
Taking place from 18 to 22 November, 2024, the ASEAN mission to Indonesia and Cambodia focuses on the textiles and apparel, handicrafts and footwear sectors.
The Sri Lanka visit, from 2 to 6 December 2024, will focus on the textiles and apparel sector, as well as products within the processed agrifood sector – such as spices and coconut products.
The delegation aims to support participants in gaining an in-depth knowledge of the respective markets, develop direct contacts and attend one-to-one business and networking meetings.
Nasir Awan (pictured), president of Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce, who has supported previous ITC trade missions to Pakistan, Rwanda and Kenya, said: “Following on from successful missions we have supported as part of the SheTrades programme, I would encourage Midlands businesses with an interest in the relevant sectors to consider these latest opportunities.
“As part of my presidency, I am keen to promote businesses from our region by encouraging them to introduce themselves to new and emerging markets, look at products they can buy from there and promote their own products.”
Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce members who are interested in attending should contact their relationship manager for further information.
