Abbie Vlahakis, chief executive officer of Millennium Point and Deputy Lieutenant of the West Midlands, has joined the trustee board of Your City & Metropolitan Hospitals Charity.

As the official independent charity of Sandwell & West Birmingham NHS Trust, their work includes supporting 4 hospitals and health campuses including the Midland Metropolitan University Hospital, the newest healthcare facility to open in the UK.

Abbie (pictured) brings a wealth of experience, including 20 years in finance, and has spent the last 8 years in the not-for-profit world.

Abbie said: “I’ve been genuinely blown away by the work the Charity is doing for the community. The community garden at the new hospital, in particular is such a brilliant example of the difference they’re making”.

“As a patient at City Hospital in recent years, I’ve seen just how much the overall experience matters - not just for recovery, but for people’s longer-term outlook too. And that’s just as important for NHS staff as it is for patients”.

That’s why I’m delighted to have joined the charity trustee board and help improve life chances and health outcomes. I hope to be able to help open a few doors in the business community too”.

Steve Allen, chair of Your City & Metropolitan Hospitals Charity said: “I’m delighted that Abbie has joined our charity trustee board to help us build on a fantastic first year of achievement since our charity launched, which included our Trust’s new hospital opening its doors”.

“Abbie’s personal values absolutely fit with those of our extremely talented board of trustees. Her extensive charity experience and contacts will also help to position us as the charity of choice for the communities of Birmingham and Sandwell”.

“We would be pleased to invite businesses to contact our charity team, to learn more about working with us to help transform lives”.
