More work to be done on removing barriers for women - directors
Two Chamber members who run a security business are using International Women 's Day to share their experiences of working in a traditionally male-dominated industry.
Businesswomen Gennine Cope and Sue Yildiz, are directors of Kopek Security LTD.
As female directors and both former dog handlers in the security industry, a traditionally male-dominated sector, the pair said firms must use International Women 's Day to take a look at their workplace culture and how existing barriers can be addressed.
They said: “On the one hand, companies are recognising their diversity gaps.
“But on the other hand, organisations need to be encouraged to take the time on International Women 's Day to examine their own workplace culture and determine whether there are steps that can be taken to further eliminate the barriers stopping women from achieving their professional goals.
“Even in the past few years, there has been a notable shift when it comes to women 's standing in the workplace.
“Kopek security have witnessed the strides forwards that have been made in the security and construction sector.
“But there is still more to be done. ”
