Mr McDonald 's opens restaurant in record time ahead of Games
A McDonald 's franchisee is winning the race to open a new restaurant in time for the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.
Chamber patron and board member Doug Wright 's newest McDonald 's restaurant - located a stone 's throw from the Alexander Stadium in Perry Barr - will open later this month having been built in just 60 days .
The new venue, which will employ 97 staff, was constructed in record time in a bid to provide a restaurant facility near the Games.
It is situated along the Walsall Road, just a short distance from the stadium which will host the athletics competitions as well as the opening and closing ceremonies.
The McDonald 's restaurant will be the 22nd under the umbrella of Wright Restaurants (T/A McDonald 's), which now employs around 2,500 staff across the West Midlands.
Mr Wright (pictured), who received an MBE in the Queen 's Platinum Jubilee Honours, said: “ I 'm delighted that we have been able to work with our suppliers and contractors to develop a very complex site so quickly.
“It 's wonderful that we will be opening in time for the Commonwealth Games. ”
