New lanterns installed in town centre key location to improve safety and visibility
East Staffordshire Borough Council have successfully identified and targeted the upgrading of lighting in the area of Burton Cenotaph, adjacent to Burton and South Derbyshire College.
The project, funded through the Commissioner’s community safety funding, replaces aging lighting with modern led lanterns designed to improve visibility around the cenotaph, Burton College and the surrounding area.
The improvements aim to help residents, visitors and students feel safer, particularly during the darker evenings.
By enhancing lighting in the area, the project supports wider efforts to reduce anti-social behaviour and promotes a stronger sense of security and feeling of safety in the town centre.
Cllr Simon Slater, cabinet member for communities and regulatory services, said: “We are delighted to see these new lanterns installed in the heart of our town.
“Good lighting is one of the simplest and most effective ways to help people feel safe and confident when they’re out and about, particularly during the darker months.
“We are grateful for the Commissioner’s support and remain committed to creating safer, stronger communities for everyone.”
