One in four West Midlands residents plan to update their wills after Autumn Budget - report
New research from national law firm Shakespeare Martineau shows that this year’s Autumn Budget has prompted a notable rise in estate planning activity in the West Midlands, with many households reassessing their long-term financial security.
The survey of 2,500 UK adults, including 587 in the West Midlands – conducted immediately after the government’s budget on Wednesday, 26 November – reveals that 25 per cent of West Midlands residents plan to make or update their wills following the Chancellor’s announcements, slightly higher than the UK average of 21 per cent.
The likelihood of updating a will is slightly higher among men (25 per cent) than women (23 per cent), and is particularly pronounced among 25-34-year-olds (29 per cent) and 35-44-year-olds (29 per cent), compared with 24 per cent of 45-54-year-olds.
Employment status also plays a role, with 31 per cent of full-time workers planning to act, compared with 19 per cent of part-time workers and 17 per cent of retirees.
