Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce has announced a new panellist for the upcoming launch of the Quarterly Business Report, happening on Thursday, 5 February.

Mahfia Watkinson (pictured), skills policy lead at West Midlands Combined Authority, will be speaking at the event, hosted by Birmingham City University.

Mahfia is a post-16 education specialist with over 20 years’ experience shaping policy, academic quality and regulation across regional skills, further education and higher education.

She leads on skills policy for the Employment, Skills, Health and Communities Directorate at the West Midlands Combined Authority, working with senior leaders, regional and national partners and stakeholders to support delivery of the Region’s ambition to make the West Midlands the best place to live, work and visit.

As the GBCC flagship economic publication, the Quarterly Business Report is the most comprehensive regular report of its kind in the city-region.

Underpinning the report is data gathered from quarterly surveys completed by businesses from across the Greater Birmingham area.

The Quarterly Business Report event is delivered in partnership with Chamber patron Birmingham City University.

Delegates in attendance will have the opportunity to receive a copy of the report and watch a detailed presentation of the results and wider trends, followed by an expert panel discussion on developing workforce skills.

This panel will include Mahfia Watkinson along Lucy Fairclough, partner at Bishop Fleming and will be chaired by Raj Kandola, GBCC acting deputy CEO.

Raj said: “Mahfia brings a wealth of experience in skills policy and post-16 education, and I’m pleased she’ll be joining the panel at our Q4 Quarterly Business Report Briefing in February.

“Her work with regional and national partners to translate skills policy into practical outcomes closely reflects the focus of this discussion, and her perspective will add real value as we look at how the region can better support workforce development and improve learner outcomes across the Greater Birmingham area.”
