Passengers urged to check their journeys ahead of industrial action

West Midlands Railway

Passengers travelling with West Midlands Railway (WMR) have been urged to check their journeys and plan ahead of industrial action.

Members of the ASLEF union have announced their intention to stage strike action on Saturday 30 September and Wednesday 4 October. WMR services will not operate on any route as a result.

In addition, members of the ASLEF union have announced their intention to stage action short of strike in the form of an overtime ban on Friday 29 September and from Monday 2 October until Friday 6 October (excluding Wednesday 4 October). During this time alterations will apply on several routes and services may be subject to short-notice cancellation. Other train operating companies will also be affected by the industrial action and passengers are being advised to check their journeys before travelling.

Jonny Wiseman, WMR customer experience director, said: “It is disappointing that industrial action is continuing to affect passengers’ journeys.

“Passengers will need to find alternative modes of transport on Saturday 30 September and Wednesday 4 October as no WMR services will be in operation. Passengers should also check their journeys before setting out on days when action short of strike is taking place as journeys may be subject to short-notice cancellation.

“Anyone holding a ticket for travel on a strike day can use their ticket on a different day or claim a full refund.”

The following timetable alterations will apply on Friday 29 September and between Monday 2 October and Friday 6 October (excluding Wednesday 4 October):

  • Buses will replace trains between Leamington Spa and Nuneaton via Coventry
  • A reduced service will operate between Birmingham and Hereford, supplemented by rail replacement buses
  • Fewer services will operate between Birmingham and Shrewsbury

A normal timetable will be in operation on Sunday 1 October.
