Balsall Common Junior School is planning a 24-hour bikeathon to raise funds to promote Verbal Dyspraxia Day and help others by raising £30,000.

Following on from the launch of their Fabulous Phonics at the school last month, one of their former pupils Mikey Akers (Mikey Wish) is now planning a 24-hour bikeathon to raise funds and awareness around Dyspraxia- a condition involving difficulty in performing coordinated movements, often associated with a neurodevelopmental condition in children.

The event will take place at The Gym in Parkgate Shopping Centre, Shirley and will start at 4pm on Friday 13 of May and finish at 4pm on Saturday 14 May.

The event already has backing from several sponsors, including the Mayor, local sports teams and their mascots, local businesses, one of which will provide a 3D board as a wrap-around to showcase the event on social media.

Howard Rose BEM, director of Funding and Publicity, Central School's Trust, said: "We still have a few weeks to go and I hope I can continue to attract support, including local press and TV news.

"This is another great example of how the Chamber can help connect businesses and schools to support them and the community.

"It will be a great event supporting a fantastic cause, so I am hoping you will be able to put aside some time on Saturday 14 May and come to support us, and perhaps even take a turn on the bike!"

"I would also like to congratulate Mikey for being chosen as a baton bearer for the Common Wealth Games, he really is an inspiration."
