Property management firm converts brownfield sites into sustainable social housing
A managing director of a Birmingham-based manufacturer has been appointed chair of Make UK’s West Midlands Regional Advisory Board.
Claire Unmey will represent manufacturers across one of the UK’s largest industrial regions.
She succeeds Rowan Crozier, CEO and co-owner of C. Brandauer & Co Ltd, who has chaired the board since 2022.
In her new role, Claire will work alongside industry leaders to strengthen the connection between West Midlands manufacturers and Make UK, helping to shape regional and national priorities and ensure the voices of businesses across the region are heard.
Claire brings more than 25 years of experience across engineering, manufacturing, technology, logistics and supply chain businesses.
Throughout her career, she has held senior leadership positions focused on business growth, operational efficiency and technology.
She became managing director of Alwayse Engineering in 2024, leading the Birmingham-based manufacturer as it continues to develop its ball transfer units and material handling solutions, which are now used in more than 60 countries worldwide.
Her appointment follows another recent recognition from Make UK, having been named among its 130 honours, celebrating 130 individuals making a significant contribution to UK manufacturing as part of the organisation's 130th anniversary.
Claire was recognised for her leadership in engineering and logistics, driving innovation, productivity and business growth while developing high-performing teams.
Claire Umney, (pictured) said: “I’m delighted to take on this role and represent the outstanding manufacturers across the West Midlands.
“This is a crucial time for British manufacturing, and through Make UK's platform, we have a genuine voice with government to shape the policies that matter to our sector.
“I'm passionate about championing not just our industry's competitiveness but also inspiring the next generation of engineers who will drive innovation and growth. I look forward to working with the regional community to make sure our manufacturers are heard and supported.”
