London Northwestern Railway (LNR) is introducing 42,000 extra seats on its services to and from London Euston every week as part of a national timetable change coming into effect this Sunday (17 May).

From this weekend, LNR is completing the rollout of its brand-new electric trains onto routes between London and Milton Keynes and on the Trent Valley Line connecting the capital with destinations in Staffordshire, Warwickshire and Buckinghamshire.

The new fleet – known as Class 730/2s - are longer than the trains they replace, boosting capacity by 5,700 more seats every weekday.

Their rollout represents an overall 20 per cent increase in capacity on LNR routes to and from London Euston.

The carriages they replace will be used to lengthen services between Euston and Birmingham, bringing more than 14,000 extra seats each week for passengers heading to and from the UK’s second largest city.

To celebrate the increase in capacity, LNR is offering customers 50 per cent off advance fares to London for travel in June, with discount codes available from Sunday 17 May.

Jonny Wiseman, customer experience director at London Northwestern Railway, said: “The extra seats we are introducing to the West Coast Main Line are set to significantly improve the customer experience for our passengers, whether they use the route for their daily commute or travelling for leisure.

“Completing the rollout of our new electric fleet is a milestone moment for us, representing our £1billion investment coming to fruition and truly making a difference for the millions of customers who travel with us to and from Euston each year.

We’re celebrating by offering thousands of half-price tickets to our passengers, so they can try out our enhanced services for less this June.”

Meanwhile, LNR is reminding passengers to check their journey times ahead of the national timetable change which comes into effect on Sunday.

Among the changes for LNR is a new direct service between Walsall and London Euston with a departure from Walsall at 05:46 and a departure from London Euston to Walsall at 18:26 every weekday.

Two additional services between Birmingham New Street and Liverpool Lime Street on Saturday evenings have also been added.
