Harry Redknapp (pictured) was the guest speaker at the launch of The Sporting Club Birmingham at Edgbaston Stadium yesterday.

The former manager of several top English clubs, including Birmingham City, entertained about 100 guests in the 501 lounge at the famous stadium.

The Sporting Club was founded by the multi-award-winning journalist, author and broadcaster, Ian Stafford, and has regular venues, including four in London, Manchester, Leeds, Liverpool and now Birmingham.

Mr Stafford said: “We are delighted to have been able to launch our Birmingham Club and to have a national treasure like Harry to open it.

“Our vision was to create a modern, diverse club for business professionals to use, via the numerous Sporting Club venues, to work, meet and network, as well as enjoy and entertain clients at many live events with big name sports stars.

“We also benefit from a truly proactive community of good people producing good business. Throw in other benefits such as hospitality and special offers on leading brands and link it all together with the world's greatest common denominator - sport - and that is the essence of the Sporting Club. ”

Other speakers included Warwickshire cricket legends Tim Munton and Ian Bell, the five-times Ashes winner who played 118 Tests for England.

Harry Redknapp became a national treasure when he won the 2018 I 'm A celebrity Get Me Out of Here and appeared in several other TV shows that endeared him to the general public.

He managed Bournemouth, West Ham United, Portsmouth, Southampton Tottenham Hotspur, Queens Park Rangers and Birmingham City.

In an interview with Ian Stafford, he regaled the audience with many of the stories he accumulated as a manager and a West Ham player.

The Sporting Club have arranged a series of events at Edgbaston 's 501 lounge, including Denise Lewis (6 July), Ian Botham 's 40th anniversary Ashes dinner (5 August), Sugar Ray Leonard (21 September) and David Haye (8 October).
