A manifesto setting out the priorities and recommendations ahead of the election for a West Midlands mayor on 6 May is being published today by the region 's three Chambers of Commerce.

The blueprint has been written in partnership between Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce (GBCC), Black Country Chamber of Commerce and Coventry & Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce.

Rebounding for Business: Vision for the West Midlands Mayor set the actions the three Chambers want the elected Mayor to deliver. Key headlines include:

  • Leading the region from pandemic survival to economic revival
  • Making the West Midlands the most business friendly region in the UK
  • Developing a transport network fit for the 21st century
  • Helping businesses adapt to the post Brexit landscape
  • Making the West Midlands the number one destination in the country to visit, work and live post pandemic
  • Transforming the West Midlands through investment in the green economy and encouraging environmentally sustainable business practices

Raj Kandola (pictured), head of policy at the GBCC, said: “As membership bodies which represent over 5,000 businesses in the region, the collective Chamber voice is a powerful lobby and we wanted to use this document to promote pro-businesses policies with candidates across the political spectrum.

“We are delighted to be partnering with our fellow Chambers in order to set out the vision we want to see delivered by the West Midlands Mayor over the next four years.

“The document sets outs out some of the key priorities and actions we believe will have the strongest positive impact on the business community as the region looks to emerge from the Covid-19 pandemic on a surer footing.

“It 's such an important time for the West Midlands right now, and in the run up to 6 May, the three Chambers will be using their combined platforms to raise awareness of the elections amongst the wider business community and encouraging every eligible voter to exercise their democratic right - every vote counts and will play an important role in shaping the future of the region. ”
