The nation gets the opportunity this week to show their support for the men, women and families that make up the Armed Forces community this week.

Armed Forces Week takes place from today until Sunday with Reserves day, which recognises those who give up their time to serve in the Reserve Forces, on Wednesday.

The West Midland Reserve Forces & Cadets Association (WM RFCA) invites all Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce (GBCC) members to get involved in the celebrations for the week by checking out activities in the official toolkit.

Armed Forces Week is a chance to celebrate the Armed Forces, the military personnel and the role they play protecting the UK both at home and overseas. Two key days, within Armed Forces Week, that remain unchanged every year are Reserves Day on the Wednesday and Armed Forces Day on the Saturday.

The Armed Forces community includes Regular, Reserves, veterans, spouses and both cadets and Cadet Force Adult Volunteers from our four cadet services - Sea Cadet Corps, Army Cadet Force, RAF Air Cadets and the Combined Cadet Forces.

Siamha R Butt, head of engagement for the WM RFCA, said: “Most Armed Forces Week events will be returning to face to face this year and there are lots of different ways members can show their support.

“You can take part digitally by joining the #SaluteOurForces initiative. Simply submit photos or videos of yourself, family, friends or colleagues saluting with the above hashtag to show your support for the Armed Forces community and their hard work.

“Please remember to tag us in your photos too, we'd love to see how you are celebrating our forces family - tag us @WMRFCA on Twitter and Facebook, @West_Midland_RFCA on Instagram or @West-Midland-RFCA on LinkedIn. ”

Ahead of Armed Forces Week, WM RFCA chief executive Colonel Richard Maybery was the guest on the CEO Stories podcast, hosted by Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce chief executive Henrietta Brealey.

He discussed his career in depth and how nearly four decades in the Army shaped his leadership style. Listen now on all the major podcast apps such as Spotify and Apple Podcasts.
