Remain vigilant as next phase of roadmap takes effect - Chamber
Businesses and the wider public must remain vigilant over the coming weeks and months to ensure lockdown restrictions aren 't reimposed, business leaders said today.
The message comes from Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce as the next step of the Government 's roadmap for lifting restrictions takes effect next week.
Next Monday (29 March) is the next key date where lockdown rules will change with outdoor sports facilities such as golf courses and tennis courts being given the green light to re-open.
The government 's stay at home rule, which has been in place since the lockdown began in January, will also be lifted.
However, home working must continue where possible and journeys should be kept to a minimum.
The 'rule of six ' will also make a return with up to six people or two households allowed to meet outdoors.
These changes mark the end of the first step of the government 's four-stage plan to easing lockdown restrictions across the country.
The remaining steps of the roadmap are expected will take effect no earlier than 12 April, 17 May and 21 June, dependent on whether or not the government 's four tests are met.
The GBCC has created a blog post outlining these forthcoming changes along with more information on workplace testing and Covid secure guidance - read here.
Daniel Clarke (pictured), policy manager at Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce, said: “While this next phase in the road map is more focused on socialising and outdoor recreation than business activity, it is another step in the right direction.
“Many businesses are now preparing for the anticipated return of non-essential retail and outdoor hospitality on the 12 April and as a Chamber we look forward to supporting them as they get back into action.
“Whilst the roll-out of the vaccine brings hope that we will see a return to some form of normality in the not so distant future, it is imperative that we all remain vigilant over the course of the next few months as the economy unlocks to prevent a scenario whereby these restrictions will need to be re-imposed later down the line.
“It is important that businesses are aware of the latest Covid secure guidance and have put the necessary preparations in place to ensure that they are ready to safely re-open again in a few weeks time.
“The GBCC will continue to keep businesses informed of the latest developments over the coming weeks and months and I would encourage businesses to check out our COVID Hub for the latest on government guidance and regulations. ”
