ExtraCare 's Solihull Village has been honoured with tthe Best Older People Housing Development - Urban award at this year 's Inside Housing Development Awards.

The awards were hosted at the Royal Lancaster hotel in London.

Now in its fifth year, the Inside Housing Development Awards continues to celebrate developers, councils, and architects from across the UK, for their work in building exemplary homes and communities across a range of tenures and contexts.

The award recognised homes for older people that are well designed to meet current and future care and support needs. Solihull Village, which opened in 2020, was awarded for its technologically advanced innovation apartment.

Solihull Village 's award highlights the benefits of modern assistive technology, its intergenerational work in bringing pre-school children to enjoy classes with residents, and for how it was developed and constructed with residents ' wellbeing in mind.

Established in 1988, Extracare is a registered charity that currently has more than four thousand homes within their Housing Schemes and Villages across different locations. Their vision is building better lives for older people, by creating sustainable communities with homes that they want, lifestyles they can enjoy and providing care if it is needed.

Hardev Thandy, head of Growth and Construction for ExtraCare, said: “We are very proud and honoured to win this award. ExtraCare is committed to delivering better lives for older people and the Solihull development is a reflection of that commitment.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our colleagues and partners that helped make this project a reality. ”
