Road closures and re-openings announced as Metro extension work continues
Further road closures and re-openings have been announced by the Midland Metro Alliance as construction work continues on the Birmingham Eastside Metro extension.
The ongoing building work will see the reopening of Meriden Street from its junctions with High Street, Deritend and Coventry Street as well as the subsequent closure of New Canal Street.
From Saturday 27 June, Meriden Street will open back up from its junctions with High Street Deritend and Coventry Street, as work is completed in this section.
The section of Meriden Street between Coventry Street and Bordesley Street will remain closed and New Canal Street will also close. The work will include a vehicular closure of the Meriden Street /Bordesley Street / New Canal Street junction, with a clearly signed diversion route in place.
Vehicular access to businesses in New Canal Street will be maintained from the Fazeley Street end. Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout at all times.
The Midland Metro Alliance said: “Please be advised the traffic management footprint on the ground will be dictated by the needs of the construction programme and is therefore subject to change. We will keep you updated as soon as we have confirmation of any changes.
“Our Stakeholder Liaison Manager, Tom Bissell, can be contacted on the details below should you have any questions about the work, or require further information about the project.
“We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your understanding.”
