School launches crowdfunding campaign to build fitness studio
Henley-in-Arden School have started a crowdfunding campaign to raise funds to convert its old barn into a new multi-use fitness studio.
Funds raised will be used to convert disused outbuilding into a fitness, health and wellbeing centre for pupils of Henley-in-Arden school and Venture Academy.
Local residents from the community will have opportunities to use the space at evenings or weekends.
The school is aiming to raise £5,000 for the project via Calor's crowdfunding scheme, whereby projects featured receive one point for every like or share, and 10 points when a donation is made.
Projects which receive a certain amount of points will receive a slice of Calor's £85,000 funding pot towards their project.
Joseph Roper, associate headteacher at Henley-in-Arden School, said: "Wellbeing and fitness is essential for a healthy life.
"Whilst our school has excellent facilities, a bespoke space to run exercise classes for staff, students and the community would have a great benefit to us all.
"We have all learned the importance of looking after ourselves physically and mentally during this last year, and we would love the opportunity to provide a space to ensure we can support our students and staff to achieve this."
Paul McDowell, head of Physical Education at the school, added: "For a number of years, we have seen the dilapidated barn fall further into disrepair. The crowdfunding project from Calor inspired us to set off on the journey to raise the necessary funds allowing us to convert the barn into a multiuse fitness suite.
"We have made small steps towards our goal however any likes or donations from individuals or businesses will be hugely appreciated and will directly improve the lives of lots of others."
