Sepsis charity to receive Chamber 's support
Sutton Coldfield Chamber of Commerce 's members have chosen a charity for the organisation to support over the next two years.
More than 50 members gathered at an event the Brewhouse & Kitchen to cast their votes - with the UK Sepsis Trust being selected as the Chamber 's new chosen charity.
The UK Sepsis Trust was among three shortlisted charities - along with the Motor Neuron Disease Association and Acacia Family Support - who were given the opportunity to make presentations to members.
Sutton Coldfield Chamber president Phil Arkinstall said: “The quality of this year's applicants for Sutton Coldfield Chamber 's charity of the year was extremely high.
“The three shortlisted charities put together strong and emotional presentations to over 50 delegates at our event.
“We are delighted to be working with the UK Sepsis Trust as our charity for the next two years.
“They were founded in the Royal Town 10 years ago out of Good Hope Hospital and have done great things over that time.
“We hope the Chamber can support them in fundraising and getting their message over the coming year. ”
Founded in the Royal Town by Dr Ron Daniels (pictured), the UK Sepsis Trust 's mission is to save lives from sepsis and severe infection - as well as improving outcomes for survivors.
This is achieved through:
- providing resources for health professionals (comprising operational recognition and treatment tools endorsed by NICE, together with associated education and training)
- raising awareness to empower the public to access healthcare at the right time
- offering support for those affected, including the bereaved.
Brian Davies, the charity 's corporate fundraising manager, said: “The UK Sepsis Trust are delighted to be chosen as the Sutton Coldfield Chamber of Commerce 's chosen charity for the next two years.
“As a charity that was founded by our CEO Dr Ron Daniels from Good Hope Hospital 10years ago, Sutton Coldfield has played an integral part in the fight against sepsis.
“In this time, tens of thousands of lives have been saved from sepsis in the UK and hundreds of thousands of lives globally through the clinical tools that Ron and the team have developed that are now used in over 40 countries worldwide.
“We are excited to raise awareness with the businesses and educational establishments of Sutton Coldfield by delivering staff training through our Sepsis Savvy campaign, by sharing free PSHE lesson plans and teaching resources with all local schools and by engaging with chamber members on a host of exciting fundraising opportunities.
“There are already a team of seven local residents from members Ark Media, Henwood Court and Quilter Cheviot committed to completing Ride London 100 at the end of May, which sees all competitors competing a 100-mile cycle starting on Victoria Embankment, travelling through Epping Forest into Essex and finishing on Tower Bridge.
“We still have some places available, should any Chamber members wish to join us on the challenge. ”
