Skin cancer screening provider expands to Birmingham following increased demand for early detection
The Mole Clinic, the skin-cancer screening and mole-check provider, has opened a new clinic in Birmingham.
Located at 30A Harborne Road, Edgbaston, Birmingham, the clinic provides single mole checks, full body skin checks, mole mapping and doctor-led mole removals.
The launch reflects growing national demand for rapid access to specialist skin assessment, bringing expert-led services to patients across Birmingham and the wider West Midlands.
Skin cancer is one of the fastest-increasing cancers in the UK, with melanoma incidence rising significantly over the past decade.
Early detection remains critical, particularly as lifestyle factors such as intermittent intense sun exposure and historic sunbed use continue to contribute to long-term risk. Research indicates a 59 per cent higher risk of melanoma in individuals who used sunbeds before the age of 35.
Annie Meharg, chief executive officer of The Mole Clinic, said: “Birmingham is one of the UK’s largest and most vibrant cities, and we’re proud to be expanding our services here. As awareness of skin cancer grows, more people are recognising the importance of specialist assessment and early diagnosis rather than delaying checks.
“UV exposure is cumulative — it builds over years through holidays, outdoor work, sport and everyday activities. Even short periods of sunburn, even earlier in life, can increase future risk. Our aim is to make expert screening easily accessible so people can take control of their skin health with confidence.
“The Birmingham clinic allows patients to access comprehensive assessment, monitoring and treatment without unnecessary waiting times. We want skin checks to become a normal part of preventative healthcare, just like dental or eye appointments.”
Dr David Veitch, consultant dermatologist at The Mole Clinic, said: “From a clinical perspective, timing makes a substantial difference. When suspicious lesions are identified early, intervention is often more straightforward and outcomes are significantly improved.
“Our Birmingham clinic will deliver thorough dermoscopy-led examinations, digital Mole Mapping for patients who require ongoing surveillance, and Doctor-Led Mole Removals where clinically indicated. It provides a clear, streamlined pathway from initial assessment through to treatment when needed.”
The Birmingham clinic will offer same-day and next-day appointments, full body skin checks, mole mapping for structured long-term monitoring, single mole checks, doctor-led mole removals, fast-track referrals to consultant dermatologists and surgeons covered by all major UK private insurers and private access with no GP referral required
The organisation will also support local awareness initiatives throughout the year, encouraging sun safety and regular professional skin reviews across the West Midlands.
