A social housing association is doing its part to provide those in need with essential food, thanks to its strong partnerships with major local businesses.

Social housing association Trent & Dove, which manages over 6,500 affordable homes across East Staffordshire and South Derbyshire, helped provide a happy Christmas for its communities.

It worked alongside major supermarkets such as Asda, Tesco, Central Coop and Morrisons to bring some festive cheer by providing almost 200 Christmas bags full of food and treats.

Like every year, Trent & Dove’s colleagues identify customers who may be in need over Christmas, and they are referred to its Community Engagement team.

The supermarkets were joined by the local McDonald’s and Coop Funeralcare to provide essential non-perishable food items such as pasta, rice, soup, custard and rice pudding, and even some selection boxes and gingerbread treats.

Colleagues from Morrisons, McDonald’s and the Coop even supported Trent & Dove to pack the bags. Many more have been donated to chosen customers at Trent & Dove’s Warm Spaces cafes identified by staff as in need.

More bags have been donated to community organisations across the local area for distribution.

Trent & Dove was also supported by Novus Property Solutions, who provided enough food items for an additional 30 food bags for customers who attended its Table Talk event in Horninglow last week.

Rachael Hughes, head of customers and communities at Trent & Dove, said: “This initiative is a fantastic example of what we can achieve when we work together with our partners for the benefit of our communities.

“Supporting families who may be struggling, particularly at this time of year, has always been at the heart of what we do.

“Providing these Christmas bags is about more than food - it’s about letting people know they are not alone.

“This work reflects our long-held ambition to transform homes, lives and communities, and we are incredibly grateful to Asda, Tesco, Morrisons and all our local partners for sharing that commitment and helping us make a real difference for hundreds of households this Christmas.”

This year, Trent & Dove held a competition to design a Christmas-themed tag for the bags. George Rose was the winning entrant with his festive Santa Claus.
