Solihull Council to help improve road safety for cyclists
Solihull Council is proposing essential upgrades along the Blossomfield Road cycle route to help improve road safety for cyclists.
Existing bolt-down orca kerbs and wands will be replaced with traditional kerbs between Dorchester Road and Widney Lane, forming a safe and fully segregated cycle route. There will be no changes to existing accesses along the route.
The scheme is fully funded externally through the Active Travel Fund and the Integrated Settlement Fund, which are administered by the West Midlands Combined Authority.
Residents can read more about the plans and share their views until 23:59 GMT on Monday 2 February.
Solihull Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment and Infrastructure, Cllr Ken Hawkins, said: “The number of cyclists along Blossomfield Road has increased significantly since the current cycling provision was first introduced in 2022.
“A fully segregated cycle route with kerbs would encourage even greater usage by improving safety for cyclists, while providing other benefits such as better access for street sweeping, deterring parking in the cycle route, and removing the repair costs associated with orcas and wands, which are easily damaged.
“The scheme is fully funded externally, with no impact on the Council’s budget.”
