A consultant anaesthetist at Solihull Hospital, Dr Raja Lakshmanan, is performing alongside ten other medical professionals next month to raise money for Solihull Hospital Charity.

Dr Raja Lakshmanan is the bass guitarist in Bollywood Therapy, an 11-member group that plays Bollywood inspired music. All of the members are medical professionals, mostly doctors and they will be performing their first gig since the Covid pandemic on Saturday, 11 October at the Dovehouse Theatre, Solihull.

The performance is in aid of Solihull Hospital Charity and all of the money raised will go towards providing added extras to enhance the patient experience at Solihull Hospital and the Community Services.

The band began as a fun hobby at first, where friends could get together and enjoy playing music. It has now become a passion project for the musicians to raise money to support the hospital charity and help their patients going through treatment.

Dr Raja Lakshmanan said: “Bollywood Therapy believes in ‘Passion With Purpose’ - music is what we love, and being doctors is a privilege. Just like the other doctors in the band, looking after patients comes first for me. The job can be tough and tiring, but nothing lifts our spirits like a band rehearsal. It’s a brilliant way to mix our day jobs with our love for music.

“We’re all about giving something back, especially to our local hospital, and that’s the reason why we’re raising money for Solihull Hospital Charity. The money we raise from our two ‘Bollywood Therapy presents Filmi Beats’ gigs will go towards supporting the Pre-operative Assessment Service at Solihull Hospital, which helps nearly 2,000 patients every month.

“This wouldn’t be possible without the fantastic team of specialist nurses and HCAs, who run the whole service with support from consultant anaesthetists for complex patients. We really hope the event brings in much-needed funds and shines a light on the amazing work they do.”

Solihull Hospital Charity say they are extremely grateful for the support of Dr Raja Lakshmanan and Bollywood Therapy.

Charlotte Schofield, director of Fundraising for the hospital charity said: “When staff get involved with fundraising, they help spread the message to their patients about the work we do and the difference it makes. Patients can see their passion and motivation, and this inspires them to also get involved.

“Thanks to this support, the hospital charity can continue funding added extras such as state-of-the-art equipment, ward refurbishments and wellbeing support for patients and staff, enhancing the hospital experience and changing lives.”

Bollywood Therapy presents Filmi Beats is a family-friendly concert taking place on Saturday, 11 October at the Dovehouse Theatre, Langley School Camput, Solihull.

There will be two performances at 2pm and 6pm. For more information and to book tickets, visit HERE.
