Solihull Sixth Form College welcomes Year 11 learners to open day

Solihull Sixth Form College is opening its doors to the public and welcoming prospective Year 11 learners with their parents and carers to its annual open day.

The open day will take place on Saturday 17 October from 9.30am to 3.30pm and is open to young people looking for post-16 education places for September 2027.

Last entry at the event will be at 2.30pm and timed-entry tickets are currently going fast via the Eventbrite website.

Teachers and current learners will be available in all curriculum areas to talk about a wide range of A level, BTEC and T level courses.  

The recently published exam results included 1,386 A*/A and Distinction*/Distinction grades at A level and BTEC. Success at A level saw 74% A* - C grades and 45% at A* - B. At BTEC high grades were at 85% and at T level there were 100% high grades.

There will be an opportunity for visitors to learn about new V (Vocational) level courses, which launch in some subjects in September 2027.

These courses are equivalent in size to one A level and will be available in three subjects – digital, education & early years and finance & accountancy.

A new T (Technical) level in business & marketing is also launching in September 2027, and information will be available about that and other T level courses in digital software development, education & early years and science.

The open day also offers an opportunity for learners and parents to see the colleges facilities, including two recently constructed sustainable buildings for psychology, chemistry and applied science, as well as refurbished classrooms for modern languages, social sciences, business, accounting and law.

The college boasts specialist facilities for all its courses, including industry-standard software for areas like media, visual arts and modern languages.

In addition, college principal Dr Martin Sullivan will be delivering presentations throughout the day, offering visitors the opportunity to learn more about the learning culture of the college and the way learners are supported.

Further open evenings are taking place in November and January.
