South Asian music festival gains Touchwood backing
An annual South Asian classical musical festival, typically hosted in Solihull, is being backed by Touchwood shopping centre.
Touchwood is backing this year's Birmingham Thyagaraja Festival, being hosted by Shruthi UK, taking place virtually on 1 May.
Solihull Chamber and Asian Business Chamber are also supporting the event.
In previous years, the Birmingham edition of the festival has been held at the Core Theatre in Solihull.
The festival is celebrated all over the world to honour and pay homage to the great singing saint and composer Thyagaraja (pictured).
Due to the Covid pandemic this year 's event will be virtually. Those interested in attending can register their free space here .
Saint Thyagaraja (1767 - 1847 AD) was a Carnatic music saint, poet and composer and is regarded as one of the trinity of Carnatic composers.
Carnatic music is commonly associated with the South Indian region of the same name.
During the festival, musicians, dancers and percussionists will participate and perform a musical tribute to commemorate the saint's work.
