Speaker announced for International Women’s Day celebration
The first speaker has been announced for the International Women’s Day (IWD) celebration, organised by the Asian Business Chamber of Commerce.
Kali Davidson (pictured), head of department for the College of Food Hospitality and Tourism at University College Birmingham (UCB) will be joining the event as the first guest speaker.
The event will be held at University College Birmingham on Thursday, 7 March from 6pm onwards. The event is set to celebrate women's achievement and collectively forge a more inclusive world for women, aligning to this year’s theme of #InspireInclusion.
Kali has been employed at UCB for over 20 years and she is passionate about growing and nurturing an inclusive and equitable working environment which allows learners to achieve their goals.
She is responsible for the operation and planning in the department, ensuring there is excellent enhancement and enrichment opportunities for learners and making sure the curriculum is engaged and industry focused.
Her role also involves working collaboratively with other academic and professional service teams in the University to maintain a consistent approach to matters of mutual interest.
ABCC director Anjum Khan said: “We are delighted to welcome Kali Davidson as the first speaker for our IWD celebrations. I am certain that Kali’s presence as an academic will provide a unique perspective to the event with many exclusive insights.
“IWD is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. Additionally, it’s a call to action for accelerating gender parity, recognising the barriers women face, and celebrating the milestones in women’s rights and equality.
“Today, IWD, which traces its roots back to the early 20th century, is recognised worldwide, drawing attention to issues like gender disparity, women’s rights, and celebrating the countless achievements of women throughout history.
“We look forward to celebrating women’s achievements with a diverse gathering of people from all elements of business life in the region.”
The event, which is being staged the day before International Women’s Day, on March 8 will open with a drinks reception, followed by dinner and discussions with a panel of speakers.
