McDonald 's franchisee and Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce (GBCC) board member Doug Wright has been confirmed as a speaker for the forthcoming Quarterly Business Report briefing event.

The event is set to take place on 29 November at Birmingham City University.

Doug Wright, who is the owner of Wright Restaurants (T/A McDonald 's) and a Deputy Lieutenant for the West Midlands, will share his journey and reflections on being an entrepreneur in the region. He has also received an MBE earlier this year for services to the economy and charity.

As well as being the chief executive officer of his franchised company of 23 McDonald 's restaurants across the West Midlands, Wright also served as chair of the Ronald McDonald House Charities in Birmingham for six years, leading the charity through some extraordinary fundraising initiatives during this time.

He started his career at McDonald 's in 1981, working his way up the ranks to operate one of McDonald 's largest franchised organisations, employing over 2200 people.

Beth Clewes, insight and intelligence services manager for GBCC, said: “I 'm very excited to hear more about Mr Wright 's entrepreneurial endeavours, as his journey from McDonald 's employee to franchisee is an inspiring one for any budding entrepreneurs in the city-region.

“I would encourage anyone with an interest in discussing with like-minded members of the business community how Greater Birmingham can harness entrepreneurial talent to stimulate the local economy to come along to the event ”
