Sports charity’s summer camp hailed a success
The Birmingham Youth Sports Academy foundation (BYSA) summer holiday programme was a huge success following a variety of sports and adventure activities.
BYSA was funded by StreetGames to deliver the free “Bring it on Brum” programme, which included Football, Basketball, Cricket, Volleyball, Tennis, Boxing, Table Tennis, Pool and more sports.
The funding was used to engage with more than 200 local young people daily to provide sporting and enrichment activities along with a free healthy meal provided by local business supplier Manjaroes.
BYSA also teamed up with the Ackers Adventure where young people experienced skiing, canoeing, rock climbing, zip wiring, tubing, archery and more adventures. Meanwhile, Team works Karting provided indoor karting and laser tag while the F1 arcade provided simulator driving experience.
Youngsters were also taken to Birmingham City FC and Edgbaston Cricket Ground for a training.
During the last day of the camp, chairman Professor Paul Cadman invited a many high-profile personalities to attend the camp.
They included, the Lord Mayor of Birmingham, Mayor of Solihull and her consort (Mrs Shahin Ashraf MBE and Mr Jehangir Malik MBE), Simon Foster (WM Police & Crime Commission), Cllr Majid Mahmood (Cabinet member for Environmental and Transport), Mr Perry the “Bull” from the Commonwealth games, Callum Dunn from Sport Birmingham, Edmund & Richard from Royal Navy, Nadyia Hussain from Steps to work/SPR, Katie Grainger from Lead regional talent ID coach for England women’s, and professional boxers Ibraheem Sulaimaan and Hamza Uddin.
During the day, all participants were awarded medals, Prizes, Gifts by guests and coaches.
