Birmingham Phoenix players, Chris Benjamin and Dan Mousley, surprised locals at the Midnight Ramadan League as they attended to share batting and bowling tips, before joining players in the open-age semi-final game.

The Ramadan Midnight Cricket League was developed through the Warwickshire Cricket Board 's Chance to Shine Street Programme in 2021, offering Muslims the chance to play competitive cricket while fasting.

The free indoor sessions have been open to 16-24-year-olds every Tuesday and Thursday between 10pm - midnight at Edgbaston Cricket Centre throughout Ramadan.

The Birmingham Phoenix players visited the Ramadan Midnight Cricket League session recently, to meet and share tips and tricks with locals, learn more about the league, before joining players in the open-age semi-final cricket game, where they went head-to-head against each other as captains on the teams.

Chris Benjamin commented: “I think the Ramadan Midnight League is a fantastic initiative, and it 's wonderful to be able to provide a safe space for people to come together in the evening to break their fast and play cricket.

“Edgbaston have opened their doors for the Ramadan Midnight League for the last few years now, which is brilliant. I was here last year and it 's great to be back and see some familiar and new faces, and it 's been wonderful to connect with some aspiring cricketers and coaches. ”

Chris Benjamin and Dan Mousley are set to return to the Birmingham Phoenix men 's team as part of The Hundred this summer, which will bring four weeks of exciting entertainment and intense cricket action from both Birmingham Phoenix 's men 's and women 's teams to Edgbaston.

Birmingham Phoenix are the Birmingham-based cricket team with men 's and women 's side who compete in The Hundred. Birmingham 's first home fixture will take place on Saturday 5 August, with both men 's and women 's team taking on local rivals, Trent Rockets.

Tickets are now on sale with adults starting from £15, under 16 £5 and free for children under 6.
