A musical performance originally commissioned for Birmingham Festival 23 will be recreated at the region’s biggest celebration of business later this month.

‘What If’ is described as an untold street musical, exploring the journeys of Petta-gay, who arrives in Birmingham after travelling on the HMT Empire Windrush ship, Jada, who has a life-changing decision to make, and Blessing, who needs to take a leap of faith.

Although the three never meet, their lives bring them to Birmingham.

The performance is set to wow attendees at Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce’s annual dinner and awards at the ICC on Thursday 15 February.

‘What If’ was commissioned as part of Birmingham Festival 23 and performed by Girl Grind UK, Eloquent Dance and VocalNova Academy.

Caroline Davis, managing director of Outdoor Places Unusual Spaces (OPUS), said: “OPUS are delighted to provide the entertainment for the GBCC Awards. Originally commissioned by Birmingham Festival 23, for which OPUS were the producers.

“Namywa, Romanah and Bianca and their live band led by Ashely Alan will be providing guests with an excerpt of their street musical What If?

“We hope everyone in the room gets behind their performances as the creative team look to develop their musical offering here in Birmingham!”
