Stricter controls for firms moving goods to and from EU
Businesses that move goods between Great Britain and the European Union are being urged to take note of new requirements which came into force this month.
Since 1 January 2022, full import and export customs controls have been in effect for GB-based businesses trading with the EU.
New requirements of which businesses should be aware include:
- Full customs import declarations at the point of entry alongside payment of relevant tariffs
- Full customs controls at all ports and other border locations
- Proof of origin evidence needed for tariff-free trade
- New UK commodity codes
- Goods Vehicle Movement Service operational for EU-GB goods movements
- Pre-notification for imported animal products, and high-risk food and feed not of animal origin
Erin Henwood, policy advisor at Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce, said: “As trade picks back up in the new year, businesses moving goods between Great Britain and the European Union will need to be aware of the new requirements that came into force on 1 January 2022.
“The Chamber 's International team will continue to offer expert trading and customs advice, as well as provide other support such as customs declarations services, to help local firms navigate the ever-changing post-Brexit trading environment. ”
