Students gain workplace experience thanks to local business partnerships
Students from Bishop Challoner Catholic College have completed a one-day work placement with local employers through a range of industry projects and tasks.
Year 10 and 11 students visited construction firms Kier and Sisk, handling many jobs during the day and gaining insight into the world of work and a developing key employability skills.
A statement from Bishop Challoner Catholic College said: “These placements enabled students to recognise the importance of communication and teamwork to problem solving, adaptability and professionalism, these are skills that are difficult to replicate within a classroom but are essential for future success in the workplace.
“These experiences form an important part of preparing young people for employment, helping them to become more confident, informed and job ready as they move closer to making decisions about further education, apprenticeships and employment.
“We would like to extend a special thank you to Kier and Sisk, for providing such immersive and engaging work experience opportunities. Their commitment to supporting young people has made a lasting impact on our students, who have returned inspired and with a greater appreciation of the exciting career opportunities available within the construction and infrastructure sectors.
“As part of our commitment to delivering Modern Work Experience, we are continuing to expand the range of meaningful employer encounters and workplace insight opportunities available to Bishop Challoner students. We are keen to build partnerships with more local businesses that are passionate about developing the future workforce.”
