Astute Media were invited by Solihull Sixth Form College to provide an insight into how social media is used commercially for their IT BTEC students.

Michael Smith who manages all of the social media programmes for Astute Media 's clients jumped at the chance to immerse himself once more into an educational environment.

His presentation took the students through his journey from leaving school, through attaining his Master 's Degree to working on the many different social media programmes that he manages for clients.

He explained that no one day is the same with clients across many sectors. During his time with Astute Media, he has produced over 1,000 blogs, generated 10s of millions of visits to clients ' websites, designed, created and promoted thousands of ads across multiple social media platforms - in just three years.

They were also given an insight into the exciting times that lie ahead for social media, particularly with the development of the Metaverse, which is essentially the next generation of the internet.

They learned that the Metaverse will move everything that we do online at the moment, which is essentially two-dimensional, into a three-dimensional space. This will be facilitated by building the software and tools to keep up with developments in technology to convey a sense of presence.

Michael went on to explain what this could mean for retail, office meetings and workspaces for global businesses and future ecommerce opportunities.

Nicola Russell Solihull Sixth Form BTEC IT Teacher said of the presentation “Many thanks for your really interesting and informative talk, it was much appreciated, and the students gained a great deal from you. ”
