Sunrise team 'set sail ' from comfort of care home

Residents and team members at Sunrise of Edgbaston care home have set sail on a 12-week journey visiting new countries each week from the comfort of their care home.

The 'Around the World in 12 Weeks ' initiative has seen the care home celebrating each country they visit by organising various activities and events.

These include language lessons, virtual tours of famous landmarks, enjoying local music, and experiencing each country 's culinary delights as prepared by the care home 's dining team.

Every week also culminates in a 'Celebration Day ' where Sunrise of Edgbaston celebrates and immerses the care home within each country 's culture.

Starting in France, Sunrise of Edgbaston 's journey then includes visits to countries such as Italy, South Africa, Mexico, China and India.

The extensive travel itinerary has been launched as part of Sunrise Senior Living UK 's #NewDawnNewDay campaign to encourage those who may be considering moving into a care home to take the step with a sense of reassurance in this new chapter of their lives.

The campaign also aims to reveal the meaningful lives led by care home residents and encapsulate their dreams and ambitions for the months ahead.

Sunrise Senior Living UK also hopes that #NewDawnNewDay will inspire people to join the care sector to pursue rewarding and fulfilling careers.

Nick Drinkwater, the general manager of Sunrise of Edgbaston said: “We believe that every person deserves to live a life of purpose and self-worth, no matter what their age and we are all hugely excited about this campaign.

“We are looking forward to travelling from the comfort of our home with residents and fellow team members - it 's going to be great.

“Some of our residents may have always wanted to visit these countries and we will do a very best to bring the feel, culture and tastes from around the world.

“Our residents will get to take part in their own tour de France, listen to live Opera, take part in Flamenco dancing and enjoy a good old fashioned English afternoon tea.

“The whole team here at Sunrise of Edgbaston is getting involved and even I am dressing up and hosting dinner at the Captain`s table.

“As I write this the team are decorating the home and residents are getting involved discussing cruises and countries they have visited.

“What an amazing 12 weeks we have ahead. ”
