A major summit which aims to inspire collaborative action among businesses on sustainability is being hosted by the Chamber next week.

The first Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce and Coventry & Warwickshire Chambers of Commerce Sustainable Business Summit takes place next Wednesday.

The summit aims to inspire action through sharing insight and engaging in thought provoking conversations.

It follows a month of webinars, podcasts, blogs and other digital content sharing best practice, guidance and knowledge to support businesses to progress to net zero as part of the Sustainable Business Series: Net Zero campaign.

The Chambers ' first Sustainable Business Series: Net Zero Campaign aims to share best practice guidance and knowledge to progress businesses to net zero.

The campaign is sponsored by Aston University, Arup, Morgan Sindall and University of Birmingham.

It will feature 11 speakers, from MPs to sustainability experts.

Topics covered include why net zero is so important, the financial case for sustainability, supply chain sustainability and the role of businesses in net zero.

The summit will close with thoughts from West Midlands mayor Andy Street.

Will Hargreaves (pictured), policy advisor at the Chamber, said: “Business and industry are recognised as key to decarbonising the UK economy.

“On Wednesday, we will hear from the region 's leaders and experts on how the business community and its stakeholders are responding to net zero and the urgent need to decarbonise.

“We 'll gain insight into how sustainability is being embraced within the region, its opportunities and challenges as well as perspectives on national policy.

“COP 26 will be underway, and we 're looking forward to the exciting discussions and debates at the Summit. It will be interesting to hear how the local community can achieve progress and make history for tackling the climate challenge head on. ”
