Tamworth Borough Council is urging local businesses to apply for a specialist support programme that could unlock up to £1,000 in grant funding to help turn their growth plans into action.

The Business Growth Action Grant offers eligible Tamworth businesses up to £1,000 towards capital investment, available on successful completion of one of Staffordshire County Council's business support programmes.

The grant is designed to help businesses put expert advice into practice by investing in equipment, technology and other capital purchases to improve productivity, increase capacity and support long-term growth.

To qualify, businesses must complete either Staffordshire County Council's Growth Ladder Programme or Build and Scale Programme, both of which offer tailored support to help firms identify opportunities to grow and improve performance.

As places on the programmes are limited, businesses are being encouraged to apply as soon as possible to avoid missing out on both the support and the grant opportunity.

Eligible firms can use the funding towards new machinery, specialist equipment, digital technology, software, low-carbon improvements and other one-off investments that directly support the recommendations made during their business support programme.

The grant is open to eligible Tamworth-based small and medium-sized businesses and self-employed traders that have been operating for between two and five years and are ready to grow.

Councillor Nova Arkney, portfolio holder for infrastructure and local economy, said: “We know that many businesses have ambitious plans to grow but can sometimes struggle to find the funding needed to take that next step.

“The Business Growth Action Grant is designed to bridge that gap by helping businesses invest in the equipment, technology and improvements they need after receiving expert business advice.

“I would encourage any eligible Tamworth business to register for the Growth Ladder or Build and Scale programme as soon as possible.

“Not only will they receive valuable specialist support, but on successful completion they could also qualify to apply for up to £1,000 towards implementing their growth plans.

“With places on the programmes limited and grant funding available on a first-come basis, businesses should act early to avoid missing out.”

Businesses can request a Business Growth Action Grant application form at any stage while taking part in either programme, but must complete it before becoming eligible to receive funding.

Applications close at 2pm on 30 November 2026, with all approved investment required to be completed by 28 February 2027.

Businesses can find out more or check their eligibility by emailing Tamworth Borough Council's Economic Development Team at business@tamworth.gov.uk, or by visiting the council's website.
