Tamworth science and technology firm recognised in parliamentary report celebrating UK exporters
Tamworth-based science and technology company PI-KEM has been highlighted in a parliamentary report celebrating small and medium-sized businesses taking British expertise into international markets.
PI-KEM Ltd was selected to represent Tamworth in The Power of Place, a campaign from the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for International Trade and Investment.
The report looks at the contribution SME exporters make to their local communities and the wider UK economy, with MPs from five areas championing businesses from their constituencies.
PI-KEM, which is based in Tamworth and exports to more than 40 countries across Europe, North and South America, Asia, Africa, and Australia, was selected as one of the businesses representing the town.
The company supplies specialist materials that support scientific research in areas including nanotechnology, photonics and optoelectronics, hydrogen technology and energy.
Its work means a business rooted in Tamworth is helping researchers and organisations working on scientific and technological developments around the world.
The report also highlights PI-KEM's technical product knowledge and its ability to provide bespoke materials for research where required.
PI-KEM's work in battery research is among the examples featured, including its support for the development of advanced battery pilot-line facilities with University College London (UCL) and the Łukasiewicz Research Network in Poland.
The parliamentary recognition follows another significant year for the Tamworth business. PI-KEM expanded its offices in 2024 and was named Tamworth Business of the Year in 2026.

The wider Power of Place campaign highlights the role SMEs can play in UK economic growth.
The report notes that around 314,000 of the UK's 5.5 million SMEs currently export and argues that helping more businesses reach international markets could create further opportunities for businesses and their local economies.
PI-KEM was one of three Staffordshire businesses covered in recent reporting on the campaign, alongside Broxap and Incap in Newcastle-under-Lyme.
