IT service provider Intercity has recently participated in two charity initiatives, engaging with the local community to support important causes - and raising almost £6,000.

The fundraising initiatives included a charity golf day to raise money for St. Basils and sponsoring Childline for a day.

The charity golf day was held at The Warwickshire and raised £5,710 in support of St. Basils, a non-profit organisation working with young people aged 16-25 who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. The charity helps over 4,000 young people every year across the West Midlands, including housing over 1,200 in their 29 supported accommodation schemes. The day of golf was followed by a barbecue and a speech from Midland 's sporting legend, Ron Atkinson.

Together with its sister company GuidingLight, Intercity also sponsored a whole day of operations at Childline of the NSPCC. The donation ensured that 700 calls and online messages could be answered and supported by Childline counsellors, who offer advice and compassion to children through open and honest conversation.

Christina Pendleton, chief people officer at Intercity, said: “Intercity is proud to have supported these two fantastic causes in recent months. Our golf day was lots of fun and a tremendous success, and our day sponsoring Childline was an eye-opening experience.

“At Intercity, we believe that companies have a responsibility that goes beyond their business and into the community. As an organisation with such strong roots, we are committed to supporting the charity sector across the Midlands and beyond.

“As we continue to grow, we hope to continue supporting fantastic local charities like these and branching out into supporting national initiatives so that we can give back to the country on a larger scale."

Intercity has also supported those impacted by the war in Ukraine, donating £15,000 to a crowdfunding appeal that enabled them to purchase a van to deliver aid and supplies to the Ukrainian people.

These initiatives mean that Intercity has given over £60,000 to charitable causes in 2022, with further fundraising activities planned as the year closes. For example, as part of its commitment to becoming net-zero by 2025, Intercity is planning to plant 200 trees across the UK and will be working with Pacajai REDD+ Project to offset 336 tonnes of CO2 by protecting established trees in the Amazon rainforest.
