The Footprints Family: Looking back at a month of charity in rural Kenya

Footprints

The Footprints Family charity, based in rural Kenya, has been helping underprivileged communities and vulnerable children with education, shelter, and a safe environment.

The charity reflects on a month of hopeful change with new development and initiatives.

A little girl who used to walk more than two kilometres each day to school has been accommodated in a new boarding facility, thanks to the charity.

The charity has received new beds last month, giving the children a comfortable rest. A well wisher has also donated pillows for each child.

During school, students are taught about various sustainability initiatives and the cultural heritage of different tribes. Students are also given practical lessons such as planning cycles and free whole meals.

Over the coming months, Footprints is planning to build a new dormitory block while renovating old buildings.

Charity founder Kerry Watson has been conducting training sessions with the Footprints staff in Kenya to further support the initiatives being carried out.

Speaking about the fundraising project, Kerry, a Burton resident, said: “Many hands make light work!

“Raising funds is vital to keep the Footprints Family thrive and we are grateful to everyone who helps.

“All the funds raised will do directly to help children thrive and keep smiles on faces.”

The Footprints Family charity is dependent on donations which can be made through providing food parcels, second hand clothes, and educational resources.

Businesses in the Burton are also encouraged to hold fundraisers and events to support the charity and volunteering opportunities are also available.
