Renowned for originating groundbreaking works of theatre and reimagining timeless stories, the Birmingham Rep has announced further shows for 2024/2025.

The new shows will join a line-up of iconic adaptations, new works, and classics, all promising to captivate audiences of all ages.

The House will stage an adaptation of Bruce Robinson’s beloved British comedy, Withnail and I, directed by The Rep’s Artistic Director Sean Foley.

This uproarious tragi-comedy follows the misadventures of two out-of-work actors as they embark on an unforgettable holiday, bringing to life the iconic characters and timeless humour of the original film (3 to 25 May).

Following on will be the Youth Theatre and Community Festival, Love and Rebellion, from 5 to 21 July.

It features over 15 performances, including a number of new productions, showcasing the stars of tomorrow.

In a UK premiere, Becoming Nancy opens 2 October – 2 November. This feel-good musical is adapted from Terry Ronald’s bestselling novel, and centres around a coming-of-age narrative backed by exhilarating new songs.

One of the UK’s best musicals’ teams, George Stiles and Anthony Drewe partner with Broadway legend Jerry Mitchell, this production promises to be a blockbuster hit.

The House will also host the acclaimed Glory (7 September), celebrating the remarkable legacy of Rosetta Tharpe, comic Tez Ilyas (12 September) and ‘the patron saint of poetry’, Roger McGough (14 September).

As the festive season approaches, The Rep invites audiences to experience two literary classics like never before.

Mark Gatiss’ chilling adaptation of a Charles Dickens’ classic, A Christmas Carol: A Ghost Story and The Rep’s enchanting rendition of Raymond Briggs’ The Snowman are winter experiences to treasure.

Joining the festive season family is the Rep Original family show The Snowflake (5 December to 12 January 2025). Co-produced by Birmingham Rep, Polka Theatre and Little Angel Theatre, it will weave its magic in The Door.

Complementing The House productions is a dynamic programme in The Door curated by The Rep’s associate director, Madeleine Kludje, promising audiences an array of entertaining and thought-provoking work.

Book now for Forced Entertainment’s Associate Artist Tyrone Huggins’ dizzying take on time travel To Move in Time (23 to 24 May).

While the Rep Original drama Bright Places (Thu 24 Oct to Sat 2 Nov) is a three-woman, one-woman show about Multiple Sclerosis. With 90s pop, a costume skip and a lot of glitter, Bright Places is a funny and honest autobiographical story about growing up in the shadow of chronic illness.
